To provide an optical printer which allows the proper selective use of instant films of plural formats varying in film sizes and prevents the use of the instant films expired of the validity.
A film pack in which the instant films are packed is provided with film codes indicating a print size, the date of the validity, etc. Such information is detected by a film code detecting section 73. The image data for printing is transferred to a work memory 75 by a system controller 55. The image data is subjected to conversion processing by an image conversion circuit 74 and is complied with the film size. The image data after the conversion is transferred by one line each to a line memory and is subjected to printing by an exposure head 35. When the system controller 55 judges that the present date indicated on a date counter circuit 69 is expired of the date of the validity, the controller emits an alarm to an LCD panel 20 or stops the printing operation.
