Abstract:
PURPOSE: To output a wide pulse free from distortion, by forming an optical loop by using a rare earth added fiber, a pumping light, an optical combining and branching equipment, etc., inputting a light delayed by an optical fiber for delay in the equipment, and turning an optical switch on, with the time which almost coincides with the time that an optical signal turns around the optical loop.
CONSTITUTION: When a pumping light from a pumping light source 2 is inputted from the input terminal 3A of an optical combiner 3, the light is inputted in a rare earth added fiber 1 via an optical isolator 7. By an optical switch controller 6, an optical switch 5 is turned on, with the time which almost coincides with the time that an optical pulse turns around an optical main loop. The pumping light begins to turn around the optical main loop. When the optical pulse is inputted from the an input terminal 200A of an optical fiber coupler 200 of an optical combining and branching equipment, the optical pulse is branched into an optical fiber 100 for delay by a constant ratio, and delayed by the pulse width amount. After that, the optical pulse is made to return to the optical main loop from the input terminal 200B, combined with an optical pulse inputted from the input terminal 200A, and subjected to waveform shaping.
