Title:
OPTICAL PULSE MULTIPLEXING APPARATUS
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP11072757
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

To provide an optical pulse multiplexing device which eliminates the need for high-frequency electric wiring to optical modulators and allows easy manufacture by using electric field absorption type optical modulators as the optical modulators and inputting optical pulse trains and the data signals of a frequency f0 synchronized with these optical pulse trains as light signals to the optical modulators of respective channels.

The optical pulse train (λs) of the repetitive frequency f0 and the optical signal (λp) modulated by an electric signal '10110' synchronized with this optical pulse train are inputted via an optical multiplexer 23 to the EA modulator (electric field absorption type optical modulator) 13a. In such a case, the pulse width of the optical signal is sufficiently wider than the pulse width of the optical pulse train and the peak power of the optical signal is the intensity to induce the absorption saturation of the EA modulator 13a. The peak power of the optical pulse train is smaller than that of the optical signal. Then, the optical pulse train is modulated to the same '10110' as that of the optical signal and is outputted as the optical pulse signal. The optical pulse signal is given with a prescribed delay with each of the respective channels according to the length of an optical waveguide and the optical pulse signals of all the channels are subjected to time-division multiplexing by the optical multiplexer.
