To provide an optical pulse sterilizer which can smoothly convey a card being a work, to an optical pulse illumination area without causing a jam during the conveyance, and can reliably prevent the card being the work, from being deteriorated or burned out by being subjected to excessive illumination of optical pulses, even if the work gets jammed.
Sensors 39 and 40 which sense the work's approach and withdrawal are respectively provided at the inlet side and the outlet side of the optical pulse illumination area where an illuminator is installed. A controller 41 is provided which allows the optical pulses to be applied when a predetermined time elapses after the work's approach is sensed by the sensor 39 of the inlet side, and then, when the work's withdrawal is not sensed by the sensor 40 of the outlet side after a further predetermined time elapses, the controller 41 stops application of the optical pulses and conveyance of the work and actuates a warning device 42.
