Title:
OPTICAL RECORDING MEDIUM DISCRIMINATING DEVICE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3378398
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To discriminate each of optical recording media having different recording methods and reproducing methods even while the shapes are the same.
CONSTITUTION: This optical recording medium discriminating device discriminates at least two kinds of optical recording media having different depths of pits carrying recording information. A light beam having a prescribed wavelength is made incident on an optical recording medium, the returned light quantity is detected and a reading signal (b) corresponded to the detected returned light quantity is generated. The respective light quantities in two regions linearly symmetric in the tangential direction of a track composed of a pit string are detected from the returned light quantities, a pushpull signal (c) corresponding to the difference of the light quantities is generated, the phase difference between the reading signal (b) and the pushpull signal (c) is detected and the kind of an optical recording medium is discriminated by the phase difference.
