PURPOSE: To enable the absorption of light in the entire wavelength region and to ensure high sensitivity and a low cost by successively laminating a metallic vapor-deposited layer, a light absorbing layer and a protective sheet on a transparent substrate and incorporating carbon black into the light absorbing layer.
CONSTITUTION: A metallic vapor-deposited layer 3, a light absorbing layer 4 and a protective sheet 5 are successively laminated on a transparent substrate 2 to obtain the objective optical recording medium 1. This medium is irradiated with light from the protective sheet 5 side at the time of recording and readout is carried out from the substrate 2 side. A visually transparent material or a material having high transmissivity in the wavelength region of a light source used at the time of mechanical readout, e.g. glass or plastic may be used as the material of the transparent substrate 2 and the material is preferably selected in accordance with required strength, flexibility, weight, adhesiveness and workability. The thickness of the substrate 2 can freely be set in accordance with the purpose for which the medium is used.
