Title:
OPTICAL RECORDING MEDIUM
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH0283832
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain such an optical recording medium which takes short time to erase information records and has excellent storage life of records by adding the third metal element to GeTe as the medium film and then irradiating the film with a light to cause phase transition into a specific means composition.

CONSTITUTION: Recording, reproducing and erasing of informations in the optical recording medium is performed by irradiating the medium film with light to cause phase transition. The medium has the mean composition of Ge(x)Te(y)Au(z), wherein x(mol%), y(mol%) and z(mol%) representing proportions of Ge, Te and Au, respectively, satisfy 0.45(x+y)≤x≤0.55(x+y) (I) 3≤z≤15 (II) and x+y+z=100 (III). By this composition, crystalization rate at high temperature around the m.p. of the medium film increases, while the crystalization rate decreases at low temperature near room temp. Namely, the time required for erasing records by crystalizing the medium film in an amorphous state is shortened, which raises the data transfer speed. The obtained optical recording medium has excellent storage life of records in an amorphous state.
