PURPOSE: To eliminate toxicity and to enhance a sensitivity to near infrared region lights etc., by a method wherein an organic film containing a naphthalocyanine compound and a polymethine compound is provided on a substrate to form an optical recording medium.

CONSTITUTION: A coating liquid is prepared by dissolving a naphthalocyanine compound and a polymethine compound in a solvent, and this coating liquid is applied on a substrate and dried to form an organic film; in this manner, an optical recording medium is produced. As the naphthalocyanine compound, a naphthalocyanine compound shown by a formula I (Q is O, CONR', NR'CO, COO, or OCO; R' is H or 4 or less C alkyl; R is 4W18 C alkyl, 6W18 C allyl, or cyclohexyl; e, f, g, and h are integers 0W4; M is H, a metal, a metallic oxide, or a metallic hydroxide; and r is 0 or 1) is preferably used.
