PURPOSE: To attain high speed signal processing by constituting the title optical repeater of optical circuits not including any electric system except an optical clock generator, an oscillator and a detecting circuit.
CONSTITUTION: An optical pulse deteriorated by attenuation is arranged into a linearly polarized light whose polarized wave front is constant and branched into two directions. One branched light is subject to phase modulation by an optical pulse modulator 12, multiplexed with an optical clock pulse, inputted to an optical AND gate 16, where the optical pule and the optical clock are phase-modulated. The other branched light pulse is coupled with the remaining branched optical clock from an optical directional coupler 14 and the result is fed to the 2nd optical AND gate 23, where random jitter is eliminated, and outputted to an optical fiber 24, supplied to an optical amplifier element 25, the unarranged component is uniformized, the waveform of the optical pulse is shaped by an optical pulse waveform shaping device 26, and outputted to the optical transmission line.
