Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain an optical resin with a high refractive index and Abbe number by polymerizing a specific monomer.

CONSTITUTION: An optical resin (hereinafter referred to as resin A) comprises a polymer produced by polymerizing a monomer of the formula (wherein X is H or methyl; and n is 1 or 2). An optical resin comprising a copolymer obtd. from the monomer and an unsatd. fatty acid ester has not only a high refractive index and Abbe number but also a lower water absorption capacity than resin A. An optical resin comprising a copolymer obtd. from the monomer and an N-substd. maleimide has not only a high refractive index and Abbe number but also a higher heat resistance than resin A.
