Title:
OPTICAL RESOLUTION OF (+-)-1-PHENYLETHYLAMINE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS5626848
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To carry out optical resolution of the titled compound, an optical resolving agent for a racemic acid and an asymmetric sourse for asymmetric synthesis in high, yield by using an optically active mandelic acid as an optical resolving agent.

CONSTITUTION: Optical resolution of (±)-1-phenylethylamine is cariied out by using an optically active mandelic acid, where a soluble (±)-1-phenylethyl-amine salt may be present. Water is preferable as a solvent. The above treatment forms a diastereomeric salt, which is optically resolved by the deference in solubility thereof. The salt thus obtained is treated with a base to give (+)- or (-)-1-phenylethylamine, which is then treated with an acid to recover (-)- or (+)-mandelic acid.
