Abstract:

To provide a process for the optical resolution of aminoisobutyric acid.

This process for the resolution of an amino-protected racemic 3-amino-2-methylpropionic acid contains (1) a step to form a diastereomer salt by reacting an amino-protected racemic 3-amino-2-methylpropionic acid with a chiral amine enantiomer, (2) a step to recrystallize the diastereomer salt from ethyl acetate to separate the crystal of the diastereomer salt and (3) a step to treat the diastereomer salt with an inorganic base solution to release the resolved acid from the diastereomer salt.
