PURPOSE: To enable recording without positional errors in images and ensure a fixed total quantity of incident light, by a construction wherein lights sent respectively from first and second light element arrays to be incident on an image-forming surface are located on the same plane surface, and joint parts of images overlap with each other.
CONSTITUTION: A plurality of light element arrays are divided into at least a first LED array 10 and a second LED array 12, and are arranged in a staggered manner. The LED array 10 is disposed on an optical axis plane X of an imaging lens 8, while the LED array 12 is disposed by the side of the optical axis plane X. A partial mirror 9 deflects an optical path extending from the second LED array 12 toward an image-forming surface. Light sent from the first LED array 10 is transmitted through a transmitting part 9a of the partial mirror 9 to be incident on the imaging lens 8. Light sent from the second LED array 12 is reflected by a mirror part 9b to be incident on the imaging lens 8. End parts of images on the image forming surface 3 overlap with each other over an appropriate length PQ. An electrostatic latent image is formed, whereby a loss in quantity of light at a joint part of the images is compensated.
