To provide an optical scanning device capable of determining the content of an abnormality having occurred in the optical scanning device for scanning a light beam, in more detail, and an image forming device using the same.
An optical scanning device 42 comprises: a laser diode LD; a polygon mirror 22 which scans a laser beam LB within a fixed area; a photodiode PD1 which is disposed in an optical path of the laser beam LB in the fixed area, and outputs a first detection signal SP1 for showing the light quantity of the laser beam LB; and a determining part 111 which determines that the light quantity of the laser beam LB is insufficient when the first detection signal SP1 does not reach a first threshold voltage Vth1 and exceeds a second threshold voltage Vth2 for showing the light quantity smaller than that of the first threshold voltage Vth1, and determines that a scanning operation of the polygon mirror 22 is abnormal, or the laser diode LD is abnormal when the first detection signal SP1 does not reach the second threshold voltage Vth2.
