Title:
OPTICAL SENSOR
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3426175
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To determine a characteristic of a transferred fluid in a cell-processing system by setting a light source of a selected wavelength, a cuvette constituted as a part of a liquid distribution manifold, a photodetector and a control circuit.
SOLUTION: The optical sensor used, e.g. in an interactive cell-processing system for processing biological cells such as blood or the like includes a light- emitting device 294 including an LED for emitting lights of, for example, approximately 560 nm and approximately 640 nm, a cuvette 348 communicating with a channel in a distribution manifold 256 and a photodetector 296 including a silicon diode. The light-emitting device 294, the photodetector 296 and a control circuit are arranged in a housing fit to be sterilized with gamma rays or the like, and the cuvette 348 alike is formed of an optical material fit to be sterilized with gamma rays. The cuvette 348 and the fluid distribution manifold may be dispensable. The optical sensor monitors a color and a turbidity of a fluid transferred in the cuvette 348 and detects, e.g. red blood cells in the fluid.
