PURPOSE: To obtain a high-speed optical signal generator by using a liquid crystal light valve and a light emitting diode array as a light source.
CONSTITUTION: Common signal electrodes consisting of transparent electrodes 119 and an opaque metallic electrode 120 are provided on a glass substrate 117, and signal electrodes consisting of transparent electrodes 121 and 122 are provided to a glass substrate 118. A liquid crystal 125 prepd. by adding 3wt% optical active material 4-(2-methyl butyl)-4'-cyanobiphenyl to a nematic liquid crystal is packed between the glass substrates 117 and 118 via a spacer 126. Polarizing plates 123 and 124 are disposed orthogonally on both sides of the liquid crystal cell, whereby a light valve is formed. A GaAlAs light emitting diode array 200 arrayed with light emission points in one row, a one-dimensional condenser lens 160, a liquid crystal light valve 150, and a near parabolic optical fiber array (imaging lens) are disposed on an imaging plane 170. Thereby, the high speed optical signal generator is obtained.
