PURPOSE: To provide the general-purpose performance and expansion to the system by applying high speed switching plural digital optical signals having independent synchronism and transmission speed at an optical switch device, sampling an optical signal of each channel and transmitting it to a transmission optical fiber.
CONSTITUTION: High-speed switching is applied to plural digital optical signals (CH1 is an output of an optical transmitter 1 and a CH3 is an output of an optical transmitter 3 in Fig.) at the optical switch 4, the optical signal of each channel (CH1∼3) is sampled and transmitted to a transmission fiber 9, the output of the transmission fiber is divided into each CH component by a decoder 5 and the result is received by receivers (6∼8) of each channel. Plural full reflection type optical switches using a PLZT group thin film as an optical switch element of the optical switch device are used. The optical switch element is so manufactured that the PLZT group thin film (composition 28/0/100)11 is subjected to epitaxial grow on the C plane of a sapphire substrate 10, the ridge form waveguide paths (a∼d) are formed, an tantalum oxide thin film 12 is inserted as a buffer layer and an electrode 13 is vapor-deposited.
