Abstract:

PURPOSE: To improve the transmission characteristic and to make the characteris tic stable by allowing the optical terminal station relay transmitter to implement multiplex/demultiplex processing without conversion of an optical signal so as to secure an especially stable timing signal.
CONSTITUTION: An optical signal sent through an optical fiber 11 is amplified by an optical amplifier 12 and branched into (N+1), N-sets of the optical signals among the branched signals are inputted respectively to N-sets of optical latch circuits 16,17, one of the (N+1)-sets of signals is subject to photoelectric conversion and a timing is extracted in an electric circuit, 1/N frequency conversion is implemented and the result is inputted to the N-sets of the optical latch circuits 16, 17 as timing information of optical latch processing, N-sets of the optical signals subject to optical latch processing are amplified by N-sets of optical amplifiers 28, 29 and outputted. Furthermore, an output signal from a rectifier circuit 20 is used in the timing extract circuit and a non-input signal monitor function is formed by using an AGC function to the optical amplifier 12 and the extracted timing signal.
