To provide an optical transmission body which has superior softness and flexibility and can be easily arranged in an arbitrary shape, has superior long term weatherability, so that superior emission characteristics can be stably maintained for a long period of time, and can be more easily and reliably fixed during installation on flat surfaces or the like, and to provide an illumination device using the same, and a method of manufacturing the same.
An optical transmission body comprises a cladding material, an amorphous core material which is accommodated inside the cladding material and has a higher refractive index than the cladding material, and a light transmitting resin jacket which is formed around the outer periphery of the cladding material and is made of a flexible methacrylate resin. The cladding material is made of a tetrafluoroethylene-hexafluoropropylene-vinylidene fluoride copolymer. An illumination device has the optical transmission body and a light source.
