PURPOSE: To provide an optical transmission/reception device used for duplex communication and transfer of optical parallel link data within a computer, having the structure optimized in both transmission and reception.
CONSTITUTION: On an n-In substrate 2, a light absorption layer 4, a p-InP layer 6 and a contact layer 8 are farmed, so that a reception part A is formed. On the contact layer 8, an SI-InP layer 10, a contact layer 12, a clad layer 14 and a guide layer 18 are formed, and a diffraction grating 16 is formed at the interface with the clad layer 14. An active layer 20 of an i-InGaAsP layer is formed on the guide layer 18, and on top of that, a clad layer 22 and a contact layer 24 are formed. On the side surface of them, a dielectric films 28 and 30 are farmed. Under the n-InP substrate 2, an electrode 32 is formed. On the contact layers 8 and 12, electrodes 34 and 36 are formed respectively. Configuration is so made that an electrode 38 is formed on a contact layer 24.
