PURPOSE: To obtain a sensor being small-sized and having high sensitivity by using laminate-type polarization separating elements and by disposing them in contact with optical fibers with a magnetooptical element held in between.
CONSTITUTION: A magnetooptical element 7 is so disposed as to be held between two polarization separating elements 11 and a sensor unit 13 is formed of them. An optical fiber 1 for input is brought into contact with one of the polarization separating elements 11, while an optical fiber 2 for output is brought into contact with the other of the elements with a spherical condenser lens 12 interposed at need, and these systems are all integrated so that a sensor integration type fiber 14 is formed. A light passing through the optical fiber 1 is turned into a linear polarization by the element 11 and enters the element 7. When the linear polarization passes through the element 7, it is rotated at θ = V.H.l by θ deg according to the strength of a magnetic field, and the strength of the magnetic field is replaced by the quantity of light by the element 11. When the degree of diffusion of the transmitted light is large, the light is condensed by the lens 12 and outputted by the optical fiber 2.
