To provide an optical unit that can enhance light use efficiency and be further miniaturized.
The optical unit comprises: a PBS (Polarization Beam Splitter) 5 which includes a first prism body 2 and a second prism body 3 and is formed by abutting mutual inclined planes on each other in the prism bodies 2 and 3 across a polarization separation film; a first λ/4 plate 6 arranged to be opposed to one prism surface 2a of the first prism body 2 facing across an abutting surface 5a of the first prism body 2 and the second prism body 3; a second λ/4 plate 7 arranged to be opposed to one prism surface 3a of the second prism body 3 facing across the abutting surface 5a; a mirror 8 arranged to be opposed to a surface on an opposite side of a surface opposed to the first prism body 2 of the first λ/4 plate 6; a condenser lens body 9 arranged between the mirror 8 and the first λ/4 plate 6; and a DMD (Digital Micro-Mirror Device) 10 arranged to be opposed to a surface on an opposite side of a surface opposed to the second prism body 3 of the second λ/4 plate 7.
