Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical variable delay circuit constant in delay control time irrespective of a set delay amount, small in size, low in cost, and having high reliability.SOLUTION: The optical variable delay circuit is a delay element constituted of a waveguide layer having one or more layers, and includes: a delay element formed with a delay waveguide including a plurality of waveguides incrementally different in length, an input waveguide, and an output waveguide; at least one reflection type optical phase modulation element; and a Fourier optical system disposed between the delay element and the reflection type optical phase modulation element. Light emitted from the input waveguide is guided to the waveguide selected from among the delay waveguides by going through the reflection type optical phase modulation element via the Fourier optical system. After that, the light emitted from the selected waveguide goes through the reflection type optical phase modulation element so as to be guided to the output waveguide.
