Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To optimize an optical waveguide coupler circuit device so that the circuit characteristic of the device is kept constant even when the wavelength or the temperature varies.
SOLUTION: The optical waveguide coupler circuit device 8 is composed of two optical waveguide cores 2 and 3 formed on the surface of a substrate 1, as shown in Fig. 1. The optical waveguide coupler circuit device is characterized in that the optical waveguide cores 2 and 3 are covered with a lower clad layer 6 and an upper clad layer 7 which are formed on the substrate 1, two directional couplers 4 and 5 which are formed by making the optical waveguide cores 2 and 3 closer to each other in parallel are included, each factor related to the sectional form of the optical waveguide cores 2 and 3, refractive index, and circuit wiring is optimized so that the circuit characteristic is kept constant even when wavelength or temperature varies.
