Abstract:
To provide an optical waveguide device with which it is possible to suppress an increase in optical connection losses, and a method for manufacturing the optical waveguide device.SOLUTION: An optical waveguide device 1 comprises: a clad 10 which has a first end face 11, a second end face 12 lined with the first end face in a first direction X, and a side face 16 extending in the first direction between the first and second end faces; and a core 20 which has a first core end face 21 exposed at the first end face and a second core end face 22 exposed at the second end face and extending from the first core end face to the second core end face within the clad. The second core end face is at a different height from the height of the first core end face from a side face in a second direction Z that is perpendicular to the side face, and is located at a position shifted from the first core end face in a third direction Y which is along the side face and perpendicular to the second direction. The shape of the core at a cross section perpendicular to the extension direction of the core maintains a uniform circular or elliptical shape at each position of the core along the extending direction.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
