Abstract:
This optical waveguide device has a waveguide core layer (13) and a clad layer discontinuously covering the waveguide core layer (13). The clad layer has, in some regions thereof, a structure (12) which: extends between an end section of a disconnected part not covering the waveguide core layer and a position that is on the opposite side of the disconnected part along the waveguiding direction of the waveguide core layer and spaced apart from the waveguide core layer; and gradually approaches the waveguide core layer toward the waveguiding direction of the waveguide core layer, wherein a tangent line at the end section of the disconnected part is parallel or nearly parallel to the waveguide core layer. A light introduction core layer 14 covered with the clad layer (12) is provided so as to merge with the waveguide core layer at the disconnected part of the clad layer.
