To provide an optical waveguide structure that has the ability of efficiently coupling incident light with a light transmission body inside, stably guiding light in a region requiring no light leakage, and uniformly and effectively emitting light to an optical catalystic substance carried on the surface of the light transmission body in a region requiring light leakage.
The optical waveguide structure 1 is equipped with a high refractive index section 4 composed of a high refractive index material and a low refractive index section 5 composed of a material having a lower refractive index than the section 4 and installed on the surface of the section 4. The structure 1 is designed to leak incident optical catalystic excitation light at a proper place, with the leakage quantity controlled by varying the thickness of the low refractive index section along the longitudinal direction.
