Title:
OPTICAL WAVELENGTH CONVERSION APPARATUS AND OPTICAL WAVELENGTH CONVERSION METHOD
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3833179
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical wavelength conversion apparatus which is suitable for its miniaturization and realizes a high-speed modulation even when an inexpensive laser diode having poor wavelength stability is used as a pumping light source, and to provide an optical wavelength conversion method.
SOLUTION: In the optical wavelength conversion apparatus provided with a first light source 11, a second light source 19 and a nonlinear optical material 29, light beams 17, 25 from the two light sources are made incident on the nonlinear optical material 29 to generate sum frequency light 35 of these light beams, wherein the nonlinear optical material 29 is provided with a periodic structure 31 that makes the phases of the beams from the two light sources match with the phase of the sum frequency light of these light beams; the wavelengths of the light beams from the two light sources and of the sum frequency light of these light beams, polarization directions of these three light beams in the nonlinear optical material, and propagation directions of these three light beams in the nonlinear optical material are determined such that an efficiency of conversion into sum frequency light does not change even with a change in at least one of parameters defining the efficiency of conversion into sum frequency light.
