Title:
OPTICAL WAVELENGTH CONVERTER
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH01108533
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
PURPOSE:To enable the stable generation of second harmonic waves by forming the light guide formed in a nonlinear optical crystal as a plane light guide. CONSTITUTION:The fundamental waves 8 of the laser light emitted from a semiconductor laser array 7 which oscillates 20 pieces of light emitting regions by phase locking are introduced into the light guide 10 formed in an LiNbO3 substrate 9. The light guide 10 is the plane light guide formed on a flat plate by subjecting the surface of the substrate 9 to ion exchanging of Li<+> and H<+>. The fundamental waves progressing in the light guide 10 is converted to the second harmonic waves by the SHG phenomenon in the nonlinear optical crystal body 9 and said waves are emitted from the exit side end face of the light guide 10. The semiconductor laser array 7 is installed with the light emitting regions for laser light in parallel and optically couples these regions to emit the laser light emitted in the respective light emitting regions by phase locking. The second harmonic waves are thereby efficiently generated.
