PURPOSE: To obtain an optical writing type liquid crystal display recorder with which good images free from unequal densities of the images are obtainable without deteriorating the characteristics of a light controllable layer.

CONSTITUTION: This optical writing type.liquid crystal display recorder has a light controllable layer 1 which includes liquid crystals a photoconductive layer 2 which is arranged on one side of this light controllable layer 1, a voltage control means 3 which controls the polarities of the voltages to be applied to these two layers, an exposing means 4 which repetitively scans and exposes the photoconductive layer 2, a detecting means 5 which detects the timing of the scanning and exposing and a control means 3 which controls the timing of applying the voltage by the detected signal by the detecting means 5. The polarities of the voltage applied at the moment when respective pixels are exposed in the scanning exposing of respective screens are controlled by the voltage control means 3 in accordance with the detected signal by the detecting means 5 in such a manner that these polarities are always reverse from the polarities of the voltages applied the pixels at the time of the scanning and exposing of the screen just before and after this moment.
