To provide optically active 6-bromo-1,1'-bi-2-naphthol.

Optically active 6-bromo-1,1'-binaphthalene-2,2'-diol represented by the formula is obtained without any adverse effect on the optical purity by allowing a corresponding optical active 1,1'-binaphthalene-2,2'-diol to react with bromine in an anhydrous solvent.
