To provide a liquid crystal composition which can control the spiral pitch and uses an optically active compound having a large spiral induction power, a liquid crystal display element using the same, a polymer of a composition comprising such an optically active compound, a polarizing plate using the polymer, an optical compensator such as an N-type c-plate, an oriented membrane, a color filter, an adhesive, a synthetic polymer having a mechanical anisotropy, a cosmetic, a decorative article, a device for preventing forgery and the like.
The optically active compound is represented by formula (1) [wherein Q1 and Q2 are each a group represented by formula (T1): -Z-(A-Z)r-Y-Ra (wherein Z and Y are each a connecting group; A is a cyclic group; Ra is a polymerizable group; and r is an integer of 1-5) or a group prepresented by formula (T2): -Z-(A-Z)r-Rb (wherein Z, A, and r are the same as defined above; and Rb is a monovalent group)].
