To obtain a polymerizable optically active compound having low viscosity and high spiral induction power, a liquid crystal composition using the optically active compound, a polymeric substance and a liquid crystal element.
This optically active compound is represented by formula R-1-A1- B1-C*HY1-CH2-(B2)n-X2-A2-X3-A3-X4-Z-OCO-CY2=CH2 (R is an alkyl group or the like; X1, X2, X3 and X4 are each a single bond, COO or the like; Y1 and Y2 are each a methyl group, a hydrogen atom or the like; Z is an alkylene group or the like; A1, A2, A3, B1 and B2 are each a cyclic group).
