Abstract:
To provide a chemically stable optically active compound for use in liquid crystal display devices, having good compatibility with other liquid crystals or non-liquid crystals.
The new optically active compound is shown by the formula: R1-A1-Y1-A2-Y2-X1-X2-Y3-A3-Y4-A4-R2 (wherein, R1 and R2 are each H, a 1-10C aliphatic hydrocarbon group, halogen atom, cyano or the like; A1, A2, A3 and A4 are each trans-1,4-cyclohexylene group, 1,4-cyclohexenylene group or the like; Y1, Y2, Y3 and Y4 are each CH2CH2, CH2, CH=CH, OCH2, CH2O or the like; X1 and X2 are each 1,3-phenylene group, 1,4-phenylene group, naphthalene-2,6-diyl group, naphthalene-2,7-diyl group or the like).
