Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain the subject resin composed exclusively of a specific recurring unit, having excellent heat-resistance, thermo-formability (and transparency) and useful as a material for improving the mechanical strength and thermo- formability of other resins and as various molding materials.
CONSTITUTION: This resin is composed exclusively of the recurring unit of the formula I or composed of the recurring unit of the formula I and the recurring unit of the formula II and preferably contains 30.0-95.5mol% of the recurring unit of the formula I and 70.0-0.5mol% of the recurring unit of the formula II. The resin composed exclusively of the recurring unit of the formula I is produced by the polycondensation of (R)-(+)-3-methyladipic acid bis(trans-4- hydroxycyclohexyl) ester and the resin composed of the recurring units of the formula I and the formula II is produced by mixing (R)-(+)-methyladipic acid bis(trans-4-hydroxycyclohexyl) ester with 4,4'-dihydroxybiphenyl and reacting the mixture with trichloromethyl chloroformate in the presence of an acid acceptor.
