Title:
OPTICALLY ACTIVE QUINOLYLALKYL ALCOHOL AND ITS PRODUCTION
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3825497
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce an optically active quinolylalkyl alcohol useful as an asymmetric reaction catalyst for producing an asymmetric compound having extremely high optical activity on a large scale at a low cost.
SOLUTION: This optically active quinolylalkyl alcohol is represented by formula I(R is a 1-22C alkyl, or alkenyl; the mark * indicates an asymmetric carbon). By reacting 3-quinolinecarbaldehyde of formula II with an alkyl metal of the formula, RnX [X is a metallic element; (n) is 1-4] in the presence of a compound of formula I as a catalyst, an quinolylalkyl alcohol having higher optical purity than the optically active quinolylalkyl alcohol before reaction is obtained. Further. it is not necessary to separate the product from the asymmetric catalyst after completion of the reaction since the reaction is an asymmetric autocatalytic reaction. The asymmetric reaction catalyst is useful as an asymmetric catalyst for producing a medicine and an agrochemical including e.g. a vitamin.
