Abstract:

To provide an optically amplifying waveguide having excellent gain flatness in a C-band and excellent tolerance to a variation in excitation light wavelength.

In the optically amplifying waveguide, when an Er element is added, and inverted distribution is optimized so that a gain deviation in the C-band becomes minimum by being excited by irradiation with excitation light having a wavelength ≤976 nm or ≥981 nm, the relative gain deviation determined by a gain peak value and a gain minimum value in the wavelength region of 1,530 nm-1,560 nm is characterized by being smaller than <11.5%. Further, the width of the wavelength range wherein the relative gain deviation smaller than 11% is preferably ≥36 nm.
