To provide an optically controlled phased array antenna apparatus which puts an optical power to a practical use effectively, improves a signal to noise ratio of a signal light, and improves a quality of a communication signal radiated from an antenna.
The optically controlled phased array antenna apparatus is provided with a laser beam generator to change frequencies of a local light and the signal light keeping a detuning of a microwave frequency, a second light branching filter to branch a branched signal light by the frequency between a first light branching filter and a space light intensity modulating element, and an optical radiator to irradiate the signal light branched by the frequency to an element of an area of the space light intensity modulating element corresponding to the frequency, controls an approximate direction of a radiation beam coming from an array antenna by changing the frequency of the signal light generated at the laser beam generator, controls a space intensity distribution of the signal light reflected or transmitted by each element of the area to irradiate the signal light of the frequency of the space light intensity modulating element, and controls a detailed direction and a shape of the radiation beam brought from the array antenna.
