Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide optically functional glass capable of amplifying light having a wavelength band of 1.3μm, and to provide a fiber amplifier using the same, etc.
CONSTITUTION: Optically functional glass used for an optical fiber 30 contains Sm as an active substance. The Sm is excited by the presence of exciting light having a wavelength of 0.49μm, a wavelength of 0.50μm, etc., from a Xe lamp 32. The excited Sm is induced into signal light to generate radiation light having a wavelength band of 1.3μm corresponding to a transition from 4G5/2 to 6F11/2. When the excited light exceeds a prescribed strength, the signal light is amplified.
