Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a lyophilized composition quickly dissolvable on contact with animal or human saliva or water for its oral administration, by freezing a hydrated composition comprising a gel or bubbly substance and a curing agent therefor and by bringing the frozen composition into contact with an organic desiccant while keeping the frozen state. CONSTITUTION: First, a solution comprising a water-soluble gel or bubbly substance (e.g. gelatin, liquid gelatin, albumin), a curing agent therefor including a monosaccharide or polysaccharide, and water selected from coacervate phase water and equilibrium phase water, is frozen. Subsequently, the frozen solution is brought into contact with an active substance and then further brought into contact with an organic desiccant while being kept at <=0 deg.C to effect migration of the water in the frozen product into the organic liquid solvent followed by removing the organic desiccant from the dehydrated product, thus obtaining the objective lyophilized composition where a support substance of porous skeletal structure having voids produced by dehydation of the hydrated liquid are integrated with a medicinal agent, nutrient(s), vitamin(s), physiologically active substance(s) and/or food(s).
