To provide an organic compound decomposition agent which is low in cost, has a high capability of decomposing an organic compound, especially an organic agrochemical, hardly influences on the environment, and is excellent in stability.
The organic compound decomposition agent contains a dithionite (e.g. sodium dithionite) or its derivative and a metal oxide (e.g. iron oxide or titanium oxide). The agent is excellent in capability of decomposing a harmful organic compound, hardly causes a secondary environmental pollution or soil degradation, and is useful as a soil cleaning agent since it is prepared by using low-cost materials, i.e. a dithionite and a metal oxide. Being excellent especially in capability of decomposing a hardly decomposable organic agrochemical, the agent is useful as a cleaning agent for cleaning a contaminated soil containing a remaining organic agrochemical.
