To provide: an organic electroluminescent element using a copper complex as a light emitting dopant, the copper complex being inexpensive, being synthesized easily and exhibiting an emission wavelength of a shorter wavelength; a display device; and a lighting system.
In the organic electroluminescent element including a luminous layer which is arranged between an anode and a cathode and includes a host material and a light emitting dopant, the light emitting dopant contains a compound represented by the following general formula (1). (In the formula, each of R1 and R2 represents a halogen atom, a cyano group, a nitro group, a branched or cyclic alkyl group or H. Each of R3, R4 and R5 represents a linear, branched or cyclic alkyl group or an aromatic cyclic group which may have a substituent. X- represents a counter ion.)
