PURPOSE: To obtain an organic glass for optical material, having low specific gravity and high refractive index and exhibiting excellent impact resistance and weather resistance by copolymerizing a raw material having a specified viscosity and containing specific essential components such as chlorine-containing allyl monomer.
CONSTITUTION: This organic glass is produced by copolymerizing a raw material obtained by using (A) an allyl ester monomer of formula I and/or formula II ((a) is 1-3; (b) is 1-4), (B) a compound selected from diallyl (iso)phthalate, diallyl terephthalate, diallyl adipate, triallyl isocyanurate, triallyl trimellitate, allyl 1,2-, 1,3- or 1,4-cyclohexanedicarboxylate, diethylene glycol diallyl carbonate and diallyl phthalate prepolymer and (C) an oligomer containing terminal allyl ester and having a recurring unit of formula III (A is a 1-20C bivalent organic group; B is a bivalent organic group derived from a 2-20C diol; (n) is 1-20) as essential components and compounding the monomer components to get a viscosity of 5-8,000cp at 30°C.
