Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a novel org. nonlinear optical material which sufficiently satisfies required characteristics and shows a high nonlinear optical effect.

CONSTITUTION: This org. nonlinear optical material contains dehydroabietic acid deriv. compd. expressed by formula. In formula, X is an org. substitutent containing such a structure that an electron donating substituent and an electron withdrawing substituent are introduced to the conjugate. The crystalline structure is controlled by the skelton part so that a crystal having an acentric symmetry structure is obtd. Further, the obtd. material has excellent nonlinear optical characteristics (SHG activity). This material is industrially very useful as a nonlinear optical material having excellent characteristics for a wavelength converter element, optical modulator element, etc.
