PURPOSE: To obtain a photovoltaic element with a high conversion characteristics.
CONSTITUTION: (1) In an organic photovoltaic element, a part composed of two continuous layers by an electron-acceptive organic substance layer and by an electron-donative organic substance layer is provided between two electrodes at least one of which is light transmitting. In the organic photovoltaic element, the electron-donative organic substance layer is composed of an aluminum phthalocyanine chloride thin film formed by a vapor growth method, and the ratio (α780/α710) of absorbance at 780nm and 710nm in the light absorption spectrum of the thin film is 0.95 to 1.05. (2) In the organic photovoltaic element, the electron-donative organic substance layer is an aluminum phthalocyanine chloride thin film which is formed by a vapor growth method, in which the main peak of the Bragg angle (2θ) is a broad peak form 10 to 12° in a thin-film X-ray diffraction diagram (CuK α rays) and in which the peak layer than its intensity is not provided on the side of a higher angle.
