To improve the reliability obtaining high luminous efficiency by having a non-luminous electron carrier layer between a luminescent layer provided between a hole injection electrode and an electron injection electrode provided on a transparent substrate and an electron injection carrier layer.
A hole injection electrode formed of a transparent ITO film and an electron injection electrode made of the alloy of a metal having a low work function and a low electron injection barrier and a metal having a relatively large and stabilized work function (AlLi or the like) are provided on a glass substrate. Between these electrodes, a luminescent layer composed of 1,1,4,4- tetraphenyl-1,3-butadiene and N,N'-diphenyl-N,N'-bis(3-methylphenyl)-1,1'- biphenyl-4,4'-diamine and an electron injection carrier layer for emitting the fluorescence with the electrical excitation in the solid thin film condition are provided. A non-luminous electron carrier layer composed of 7,7,8,8-tetra cyano quino dimethane or the like is provided between the luminescent layer and the electron injection carrier layer.
