Title:
ORGANIC THIN FILM LUMINESCENT ELEMENT
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH08264279
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To use metal of a small work function for electron injection by providing a luminescent layer, a protective layer, an electric charge transportation layer so as to be sandwiched between electrodes, and forming the electrodes of a conductive carbon intercalation complex containing metal of the work function of 3.0ev or less.

CONSTITUTION: An organic thin film luminescent element EL element 1 is composed of a metal electrode 6 as a cathode electrode on a substrate 2 and a transparent electrode 3, one layer of electric charge transportation layer 4 and a luminescent layer 5 sandwiched between the electrodes 6, 3, and a protective coat 7 provided on the top layer. Where, the metal electrode 6 is a metal of work function of 3.0ev or less, for instance, a conductive carbon intercalation complex containing Li, the transparent electrode 3 is an anode. When the carbon intercalation complex is used as the electrode material of the metal electrode 6 for electron implantation, the same can be formed into a thin film and the electron injection efficiency becomes high. When a metal such as Li exists between the layers, stability can be obtained, and metallic luster can be eliminated.
