PURPOSE: To obtain an organometallic polymer having a specific main chain and usable for a conductive polymer, a light-absorbing polymer, a magnetic material a catalyst, etc., by reacting a specific organometallic compd. with a specific diyne compd., if necessary in the presence of a substd. phosphine.
CONSTITUTION: An organometallic compd. of formula I wherein L and L' are each a substd. poshine of the formula: R3R4R5P wherein R3, R4, and R5 are each H or a monovalent hydrocarbon residue optionally bonded through an atom, CO, alkene, or alkadiene; and M is a group VIII transition metal is reacted with a diyne compd. of formula II wherein R3R4R5P where R1 and R2 are each H or a monovalent hydrocarbon residue optionally bonded through an 0 atom, if necessary in the presence of a substd. phoshine of the formula: R3, R4, and R5 are each as defined above, to give an organometallic polymer of formula III wherein R1 to R5, X, and M are each as defined above; and n is 2-1,000 having metallacyclopentadiene structures in the main chain.
