PURPOSE: To provide the original reader in which a length of an original has no limitation.

CONSTITUTION: A moving original read section 1 is provided with an original platen 11, an original carrier path 12 extended from a slope lower end position of the original platen 11 in the left direction, carrier rollers 13, 14 arranged on the way of the original carrier path 12, and an optical system 16 fixedly arranged on an upper part of the carrier path 12. Furthermore, a still original read section 2 is provided with an optical system 23 moved from a position P1 to a position P3 at the lower part of a platen glass 22. In the case of reading both sides of the original, the moving optical system of the still original read section 2 is moved up to the position P3 and then the moving original read section 1 is operated and a read element 23a of the moving optical system 23 is activated.
