To obtain an original size detecting device having simple constitution and achieving space saving, preventing a harness for a light source from deteriorating and being damaged due to the rubbing of the coating film thereof, providing stable irradiating light quantity and moreover, dispensing with a light source for detecting the original size and reducing the number of components.
The original size detecting device 9 is mounted in the image reader 40A equipped with a scanner part 3 having an exposure lamp 3A, an optical lens body 6 and a CCD 7, and detects the size of the original G placed on the image reader 40A. The exposure lamp 3A is fixed on the body side of the image reader 40A. The device 9 is equipped with reflection plates 9a1, 9a2 and 9a3 reflecting irradiating light from the exposure lamp 3A; and light-receiving sensors 9b1, 9b2 and 9b3 receiving reflected light. The reflection plates 9a1, 9a2 and 9a3 are arranged at a plurality of spots, corresponding to the original size on the body side of the image reader 40A.
